Fluoride Treatments

What is fluoride?

Fluoride is a natural mineral that is found in water and many foods. Every day our teeth undergo acid attacks from bacteria, and the enamel, the outer layer of our teeth, is worn down. Fluoride helps to replenish the enamel.

 Who benefits from fluoride?

Both children and adults can benefit from fluoride; however, the mineral is more crucial to those between the ages of 6 months and 16 years. This is because it is the time frame throughout which the primary and permanent teeth will grow in.

Fluoride can be extremely beneficial to those with certain conditions as well. For example, it can benefit those that suffer from any of the following:

  • Dry Mouth
  • Gum Disease
  • History of Frequent Cavities
  • Presence of Crowns, Bridges, and/or Braces

How else, aside from food and water, can I get fluoride?

If you wish to increase your daily fluoride intake, ask your dentist about fluoride treatments. Your dentist can complete in-office fluoride treatments which consist of applying fluoride directly to the teeth via a gel, foam, or varnish.
